Riyan Parag replaces Sanju Samson as RR captain after his trade to Chennai Super Kings.
24-year-old Parag had previously captained RR. When Samson missed eight games due to injuries last year, he did it. RR only won two of those eight games under Parag's leadership. In those games, Parag averaged a solid 38.57, and he finished with a career-high 95 against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens.
Since making his IPL debut in 2019, Parag has played for the Rajasthan Royals for seven consecutive seasons. He participated in every game for the squad during the previous two years. He was given a chance in India after the 2024 season proved to be his breakthrough year.
At an impressive average of 52.09 and a strike rate of nearly 150, he amassed 573 runs. In his 84 IPL games thus far, Parag has scored 1,566 runs and claimed seven wickets for the Rajasthan Royals.
Rajasthan Royals’ new head coach Kumar Sangakkara had interviewed a few players for the captaincy role before finalizing Riyan Parag’s name.
