Auqib Nabi was bought by DC for a whopping INR 8.40 Crores.
Locals gathered in great numbers, beating dhols, dancing, and chanting, transforming the normally peaceful suburb into a joyous arena. Mobile phone flashlights lit up the celebrations as friends, neighbors, and well-wishers arrived to celebrate the moment with the family.
As news of Nabi's selection spread, the Dar household became the focal point of the celebrations. Family members distributed sweets, prayed, and embraced visitors, many of whom regarded the event as a source of collective pride for the entire region.
“I thank God that I have lived to see this day. His selection is the result of his hard work. I am extremely happy, beyond words. It is only God's blessings and Aqib's dedication that have brought him here,” Nabi’s father, Ghulam Nabi, stated as per the Times of India.
He also urged young people to balance sports with education and to stay away from negative influences.
“It is a moment of immense happiness for all of us. Celebrations are going on everywhere. He has always been a hard worker, and today sports have brought recognition to Sheeri and North Kashmir,” said a relative of Auqib Nabi.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah congratulated Nabi in a post on X, calling the achievement a reward for years of hard work.
After an outstanding start to the 2025–26 Ranji Trophy, he was very good in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Nabi was the only pacer among the top five wicket-takers in the first half of the season.
He helped J&K earn a spot in the knockout stages with his 29 wickets in nine innings, which included three five-fors and an incredible 7/24 against Rajasthan. In the first seven games of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT), Nabi has taken 15 wickets at an economy rate of 7.41.
