Maxwell effectively brought his 14-year career in the IPL to an end.
Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell on Tuesday (December 2) announced that he won't be entering the IPL 2026 mini-auction, effectively bringing his 14-year career in the lucrative T20 league to an end.
Maxwell is the latest overseas star after Andre Russell, Faf du Plessis and Moeen Ali to pull out of the mini-auction, scheduled to be held in Abu Dhabi on December 16.
Taking to Instagram, Maxwell confirmed that he took the big call after a lot of deliberation.
“After many unforgettable seasons in the IPL, I’ve decided not to put my name into the auction this year. It’s a big call, and one I make with a lot of gratitude for everything this league has given me,” Maxwell said in a statement.
“The IPL has helped shape me as a cricketer and as a person. I’ve been lucky to play with world-class teammates, represent incredible franchises, and perform in front of fans whose passion is unmatched. The memories, the challenges, and the energy of India will stay with me forever.
“Thank you for all your support over the years, hopefully see you soon. Cheers Maxi,” he added.
Glenn Maxwell, who was signed by Punjab Kings for INR 4.2 crore in the IPL 2025 auction, scored only 78 runs and took four wickets in the nine games he played last season. He was ruled out halfway through after suffering a finger injury.
Maxwell played a total of 141 IPL matches across four franchises (MI, DC, RCB and PBKS), scoring 2819 runs at an average of 23.88 and a strike rate of 155.14 with 18 half-centuries to his name. He took a total of 41 wickets in the cash-rich tournament.
