The trade, involving Samson, Jadeja and Curran, will become official in the next couple of days.
The IPL is all set to witness one of the most high-profile transfer deals in recent times, involving Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR).
As per multiple reports, the negotiations have reached the final stage, with five-time champions offering two players in exchange of RR skipper Sanju Samson. All-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran will reportedly go the other way as part of the deal.
Meanwhile, a report published in CricketNext claims that Jadeja has asked the RR management for captaincy as part of their trade.
“The 37-year-old India all-rounder wants to spend his last few years in the IPL with the extra responsibility of captaincy. RR have other options to consider, like Riyan Parag, who led the team when Samson was unavailable due to injuries last season, but prefer a new face in Jadeja to maintain the team’s internal stability,” the report stated.
Notably, Jadeja had a failed stint as IPL captain in 2022, when CSK won just one of their first eight games and he relinquished the leadership post only for MS Dhoni reclaim it midway through the season.
According to CricketNext, Samson will not get leadership role at CSK, at least for this season. The five-time champions don’t have plan to take away the job from Ruturaj Gaikwad, who missed most of the last season due to an injury.
Sources indicate that the trade, involving Samson, Jadeja and Curran, will become official in the next couple of days.
Sanju Samson has represented RR for 11 years and after the conclusion of 2025 season, the wicketkeeper-batter had asked the franchise to release or trade him.
Ravindra Jadeja, who was part of the Royals squad in the first two IPL editions, has spent a majority of his career at CSK where he has been one of their marquee players.
On the other hand, Sam Curran has been a part of Chennai as well as Punjab-based franchises.
