Reportedly, RR and CSK are in talks to trade Sanju Samson ahead of IPL 2026.
As RR and CSK debate a trade involving Samson, with Ravindra Jadeja also involved, the Kerala cricketer was almost set to join the Delhi Capitals, but the deal fell through at the last minute.
According to a Times of India report, RR wanted DC to part ways with South African middle-order batsman Tristan Stubbs as part of the transaction. However, RR later asked DC to add Sameer Rizvi to the deal as well. DC owners outrightly rejected the demand, leading to the deal falling apart.
The agreement had advanced so far that even senior players in the Delhi camp, including a few international stars, were aware of it. Only an official announcement appeared to be pending before the Capitals pulled the plug.
The RR have since contacted the CSK about a trade of Samson and Jadeja. RR reportedly wants CSK to add another player in the trade besides Jadeja, and so far, only the names Sam Curran and Matheesha Pathirana have been discussed.
Notably, Samson has been the face of the RR franchise, having captained them since 2021 and having represented them in 11 seasons in two stints. Samson captained the RR franchise in 67 IPL games, winning 33 and losing 33.
He had his finest IPL season in 2024, hitting 531 runs at a 48.27 average and a 153.47 strike rate. He was retained for Rs 18 crore for the 2025 season.
