This appointment gives Moody a chance to reunite with former Australia teammate Justin Langer.
Former Australia all-rounder Tom Moody is all set to join the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as Global Director of Cricket, ESPNCricinfo reported.
Apart from the IPL franchise, this position hands him the responsibility of the Durban Super Giants in SA20 and their Manchester-based team in The Hundred.
This appointment gives Moody a chance to reunite with his former Western Australia and Australia teammate Justin Langer, who continues as head coach and work alongside Kane Williamson, appointed as the franchise’s strategic advisor.
Moody is widely deemed as one of the game’s most accomplished coaches. He boasts over two decades of experience with international and franchise teams.
Earlier this year, Moody guided the Oval Invincibles to their third successive Hundred title as head coach. He served Desert Vipers in a similar capacity in the ILT20, where he enjoyed successful campaigns, with the franchise finishing runners-up in both 2023 and this year.
According to the report, both Surrey and Reliance Industries Limited, the owners of the Mumbai Indians, who bought 49% stake in the Invincibles earlier this year, were keen to retain Moody.
The report claims that the Australian cricketer opted to take the LSG offer as it gave him a larger role. The Super Giants, owned by the RP Sanjiv Goenka Group, have yet to make Moody’s appointment public and the duration of his contract remains unofficial.
Moody’s association with LSG will mark his return to IPL for the first time since parting ways with the Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2022. The 60-year-old served SRH as head coach from 2013 to 2019 and later rejoined the franchise as director of cricket in 2021.
