India and the West Indies clashed in the first T20I of the five-match series on October 6, 2026, which was played at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on October 6, 2026. India captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bowl first. Naman Dhir made his T20I debut in this game.

Windies captain Shai Hope made 52 off 37 balls to lay a good platform for his team, but they lost wickets consistently. Only Sherfane Rutherford, with 56 off 34 balls, managed to score freely against some good Indian bowling as Windies posted 171 in 19.1 overs.

For India, Naman Dhir picked 3/31 on his debut, while Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel picked two wickets each.

In response, Sanju Samson got out for 11 runs, and Abhishek Sharma fell for a 10-ball 21-run. But then Ishan Kishan anchored one end with a brilliant 37* off 27 balls with 5 fours, letting Shreyas Iyer take the strike and take down the West Indies bowlers.

Iyer was in the zone and reached his fifty in 28 balls and accelerated after reaching the milestone. In the end, Iyer finished on 102* off 43 balls with 10 fours and 6 sixes, with a strike rate of 237.20.

Iyer also received the Player of the Match for his unbeaten ton and became the seventh Indian batter to score a century in all three formats of men's international cricket. India won the game with 8 wickets in hand and in 14.4 overs, going 1-0 up in the five-game series.

The cricket fraternity was full of praise for Shreyas Iyer and the Indian team for this stupendous win and shared their joy on social media.
