West Indies was asked to bat first and posted 171 in the first T20I.
Ishan Kishan stunned not only his teammates and the crowd but himself as well with a stunning catch during the first T20I between India and the West Indies that is being played at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on October 6, 2026.
India captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bowl first. Naman Dhir made his India T20I debut as well. Windies captain Shai Hope made 52 off 37 balls to lay a good platform for his team, but they lost wickets consistently. Only Sherfane Rutherford, with 56 off 34 balls, managed to score freely against some good Indian bowling as Windies posted 171 in 19.1 overs.
For India, Naman Dhir picked 3/31 on his debut, while Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel picked two wickets each.
During the game, Ishan Kishan showed a brilliant display of fielding near the boundary. Matthew Forde played an excellent pull shot on a fairly short Kuldeep Yadav delivery on the first ball of the 15th over. Forde gave the shot his all, but there was little power and timing behind the shot. The ball sailed high into the deep mid-wicket area.
Ishan Kishan had taken up position at the boundary, but he was unable to locate the ball under the floodlights despite covering a fair amount of distance he covered to his left. Kishan had to extend his hands in order to hold on to the ball. He was even surprised that he managed to take the catch in the first place.
