Prasidh Krishna delivered a strong two-wicket spell in the first ODI against the West Indies.
After delivering a strong two-wicket spell in the first ODI against the West Indies, India pacer Prasidh Krishna attributed his success to good communication and clarity within the team.
Prasidh is enjoying an impressive run in the ODI format this year, having claimed 15 wickets in 8 matches at an average of 26.53 with a five-wicket haul to his credit.
He returned with the bowling figures of 2/60 in 10 overs on Sunday (September 27) in Thiruvananthapuram, dismissing Kaecy Carthy and Roston Chase to help India restrict West Indies to 295/7.
"Every single session we go in, we are looking to improve at something. And every game as well poses a different kind of a challenge. When you come in knowing what exactly has to be done, there is clarity within the team, there is clarity in me as to what I do when I come in, there is enough communication going on. So all of those things accumulate and help me bowl well," Prasidh said in the post-match presser, as quoted by Cricinfo.
With spearhead Jasprit Bumrah absent, the lanky quick from Karnataka has taken on a leadership role in an otherwise inexperienced pace battery that features Gurnoor Brar and Nitish Kumar Reddy.
Prasidh highlighted that his prior two-year stint with Gurnoor Brar at the Gujarat Titans in the IPL has built a strong on-field rapport that helps them support each other during international matches for India.
"Gurnoor and I have spent two years now playing together at Gujarat Titans in the IPL. So I kind of know we have that rapport," Prasidh said.
"Most importantly, it's the ability that you have within the team to talk to each other, and that happens.We have been working on communicating even during games. And knowing each other personally helps, because you know what somebody's working on, what somebody's good at, what his strengths and not-so-strengths are. So that just helps each other when you're under pressure, and you can just go chat to each other and help them out," he added.
With the ODI World Cup just a year away, Prasidh Krishna has embraced the heavy competition for fast-bowling spots in the squad and he views this as a major plus for the team's depth.
Bumrah is a guaranteed starter in the lineup when fully fit while Prasidh has emerged as a leading ODI wicket-taker for India in 2026. Other contenders include Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, Gurnoor Brar, Hardik Pandya, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Harshit Rana.
"And every time we go into nets, we know the kind of bowlers that we are bowling amongst. And, yeah, that really helps. You are always communicating with each other, trying to push each other to do better. And I would say Indian cricket, in terms of fast bowling, is in pretty good hands," he remarked.
Chasing a target of 296, Virat Kohli destroyed the Caribbean bowling attack with a ferocious knock of 139* in just 88 balls, including 10 fours and career-best 9 sixes.
During his blistering innings, Kohli became only the second batter in cricket history to cross 15,000 ODI runs, following the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. He reached the milestone in his 303rd ODI innings, achieving it 74 innings faster than Tendulkar.
Reflecting on Kohli’s match-winning century, Prasidh was awestruck. "It was unbelievable. Sitting outside we were thinking, what do we bowl to him at that moment? He was striking the ball really, really well. All of us have grown up watching Virat Kohli, and to see him do what he did today was unbelievable. I think all of us were excited about it," the fast bowler concluded.
With this victory, India took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. The second ODI will be played in Guwahati on September 30.
