Jaiswal returned with an unbeaten knock of 173 on Day 1 of the second Test against West Indies.
India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was on a record-making spree on Day 1 of the second Test against the West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi.
With an unbeaten knock of 173, the southpaw etched his name in the history books alongside legendary names like Don Bradman, Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Virender Sehwag, Graeme Smith, and Javed Miandad.
This was his Jaiswal’s fifth 150-plus score — all coming before turning 24. Only Bradman had more by that age, eight, while the left-hander went past Tendulkar, Smith, and Miandad, who were tied with four each. He now owns the record for most 150-plus scores by an Indian batter before the age of 24.
Jaiswal also surpassed Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma for 150-plus scores as an Indian opener. Only Sehwag (14) and Gavaskar (11) have more 150-plus scores for India than him.
Moreover, Yashasvi Jaiswal is only the second Indian batter to score a 150-plus score on the first day of a Test more than once. He previously hit 179 against England in Vizag in 2024. Only Kohli did it before him, and interestingly, it was at the same two grounds -- 151 vs England in Vizag in 2016 and 156 vs Sri Lanka in Delhi in 2017.
Coming to the Delhi Test, India finished the opening day at 318/2. Apart from Jaiswal, Sai Sudharsan played a brilliant knock of 87 while other opener KL Rahul contributed 38 runs.
At stumps, captain Shubman Gill (20*) was unbeaten in the middle alongside Jaiswal, with India perfectly placed to build a towering first-innings total on Day 2.
