Dhruv Jurel made 125 runs with 15 fours and 3 sixes to his name.
India keeper-batter Dhruv Jurel talked about his celebration after reaching his half-century and then maiden Test century on day 2 of the ongoing first Test against West Indies on October 3, 2025. This match is being played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Jurel, who is playing in the series as Rishabh Pant is dealing with his foot injury, grabbed his chance with both hands, and after impressing behind the stumps, it was his chance for him to shine with the bat.
Jurel made 125 runs, his maiden Test century, hitting 15 fours and 3 sixes. Thanks to centuries by Jurel, KL Rahul, and Jadeja, who is unbeaten on 104, India ended day 2 on 448/5 and has a lead of 286 runs.
According to Jurel, the salute celebration for his fifty was for his father, and the one for his maiden hundred was for the Indian army.
"The salute (celebration) after reaching my fifty was for my father, but for the hundred, it was something that I had in my mind for a very long time because I have been so close to the Indian Army; I've seen my father since my childhood. What we do on the ground and what they do on the battlefield is very difficult, and you cannot compare that. I will always have their respect, and whatever I will do in the future will be for them.
I would like to dedicate this to them (the Indian Army) for what they do. I have seen them closely and how they are like, and I remain very fascinated by those things. I also used to keep asking my father. I will dedicate it to those who deserve it,” Jurel was quoted as saying by PTI.
Even if he is not playing, Jurel stated that his goal is to stay with the team and continue to put in a lot of work so that he can perform when needed. The wicketkeeper attributed it to self-motivation and discipline.
"It's about the privilege; a lot of people remain with the squad. Even if I am not playing, I keep working hard so that I can deliver when there is an opportunity. It comes with discipline, and I keep myself motivated," Jurel said further.
Jurel is arguing for a spot on the club as a pure batter even after Pant returns to the lineup.
