Severe fog delayed toss multiple times as umpires called off the game without toss happening.
BCCI’s scheduling of the ongoing five-T20I series between India and South Africa has come into question. This is after the fourth T20I, which was scheduled at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on December 17, was called off due to severe fog, without a toss.
Naturally, the supporters who had arrived at the venue for the match were dissatisfied, with some demanding refunds.
The event was scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. IST, but the toss was postponed due to poor visibility, as the stadium was shrouded in fog. However, after up to six inspections, the match was eventually canceled.
Before the toss, the players from both teams began warming up on the field, but then left for their respective changing rooms. India all-rounder Hardik Pandya was even seen donning a mask on the pitch.
One fan claimed he sold wheat to see the game and is now requesting a refund.
“I sold three sacks of wheat and came here to watch this match. I want my money back," news agency ANI quoted one spectator as saying.
Another fan said, “It would have been better if the match had been scheduled earlier in the day. Tickets and reimbursement are irrelevant. We wanted to see the match, see our Indian Cricket Team."
Weather conditions throughout the winter months have historically impacted matches at most north zone venues in India.
If a match is cancelled or abandoned before a single ball is bowled, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will give a refund (excluding fees).
The fifth and final T20I will be played in Ahmedabad on December 19. India leads the 5-match T20I series 2-1.
