Suryakumar has managed to score only 213 runs across 18 T20I innings in 2025.
While Suryakumar Yadav has managed to produce impressive results as India’s T20I captain, his batting numbers have fallen drastically ever since assuming the leadership role.
Suryakumar’s form in 2025 has been far from convincing. He has managed to score only 213 runs across 20 matches and 18 innings, averaging just over 14, with the best score of 47* to his credit.
The dashing right-hander is currently leading India in a five-T20I series against South Africa at home, and has produced scores of 12, 5 and 12 in the first three games so far.
After his failure in the third T20I in Dharamsala on Sunday (December 14), Suryakumar addressed the concerns surrounding his string of low scores, stressing that he is not out of form but out of runs.
“The thing is, I’ve been batting beautifully in the nets. I’m trying everything that’s in my control. And when the game comes, when the runs have to come, they’ll definitely come. But yes, I’m looking for runs, not out of form, but definitely out of runs,” the Indian skipper said at the post-match presentation ceremony.
Suryakumar was proud of how his team bounced back from the defeat they suffered in the second T20I in Chandigarh. The Men in Blue outclassed the Proteas by seven wickets in Dharamsala to gain a 2-1 lead in the T20I series.
“I think this sport teaches you a lot of things. How you come back into the series is more important. And we did the same thing, we wanted to go back to basics, do the same things we were doing in Cuttack, and the results were on our side. See, there was a lot of learning from the game we played in Chandigarh. The bowlers sat together, we had a good team meeting as well. We came for practice sessions and tried to do the same things we did in Cuttack. We went back to basics. We didn’t try to do a lot of different things, but I think basics were very important at that time,” he remarked.
India will look to clinch the series when the two teams square off in the penultimate T20I in Lucknow on Wednesday (December 17).
“I think we’ll enjoy it tonight. We’ll enjoy the win tonight. We’ll sit down tomorrow when we reach Lucknow and then see what happened in this game and talk about that,” Suryakumar concluded.
