India had lost the toss for 20 consecutive ODIs before breaking streak in Vizag on Saturday.
For the unversed, India had lost the toss for 20 consecutive ODIs -- a world record streak. The streak, which is a one-in-a-million event mathematically, started in the 2023 Cricket World Cup final.
At the toss, Rahul was spotted flipping the coin with his left hand, a superstition which worked wonders. He later revealed that it was team analyst Hari’s idea.
“What worked for me today, we had our analyst, Hari, who gave me a few tricks. He asked me to spin it from my left hand and cross my right hand,” said Rahul in a video shared by BCCI on social media.
Rahul further stated that veteran campaigner Virat Kohli had also given him some ideas to end India’s miserable toss losing streak.
“At this point, I mean, before the toss, there’s a bunch of superstitions and a bunch of things that everyone’s been saying. Virat gave me a different opinion. I stuck with Hari because he said the same thing last game as well, and he’s been the most pushy out of everybody else,” he added.
It is worth mentioning here that KL Rahul is currently leading India as both regular captain Shubman Gill and designated vice-captain Shreyas Iyer are not part of the squad due to injuries.
In the streak of 20 toss losses, Rahul was captain in five games, which included three ODIs in an away series versus South Africa in 2023 and two games in the ongoing series. Rohit Sharma led India in 12 matches, while Shubman Gill was at the helm of affairs in three games.
