The second Test of the series will be played in Guwahati from November 22 onwards.
South Africa recorded their first Test win in India since 2010 as they defeated the hosts by 30 runs in the first Test of the two-match series on November 16, 2025. This match was played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata and ended on day three, when India failed to chase the target of 124 runs.
South Africa had done well to keep India to 189 in their first innings, conceding only 30 runs in the lead. Then, in their second innings, led by captain Temba Bavuma’s 55 and Corbin Bosch’s 25 and their 44-run partnership on the morning of day three, they made 153 in the second innings. Ravindra Jadeja took four wickets, while Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Siraj took two wickets each.
It was also revealed that India captain Shubman Gill was in the hospital and would not be taking any part in the rest of the match, meaning that India was chasing the target of 124 runs with one batter short.
India lost openers Yashasvi Jaiswal (0) and KL Rahul (1) early, and then Simon Harmer and South African spinners spun a web around India batters. Washington Sundar played 92 balls for his 31, but none of the other batters could get going with the run scoring as they fell like ninepins.
Axar Patel tried to hit some lusty blows at the end, scoring 26 runs, but India was bowled out for 93 and lost the game by 30 runs. Simon Harmer picked 4/21 and won the Player of the Match for his eight wickets in the Test match.
South Africa won the game and went 1-0 up in the two-Test series. The second test will be played at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati from November 22 onwards.
The cricket fraternity was all praise for South Africa’s brilliant win in Kolkata, and they also showed concern for India’s poor batting on turning tracks.
