The two-match Test series is slated to get underway on November 14 at the Eden Gardens.
The BCCI Men’s Senior Selection Committee on Wednesday (November 5) announced India’s 15-member squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against South Africa at home.
While the first Test will be played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata from November 14 to 18, Guwahati’s Barsapara Cricket Stadium will host the second Test from November 22 to 26.
Shubman Gill will lead the Indian side in the series, which also marks the return of vice-captain and wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant from toe injury. Pant proved his fitness in a four-day match for India A against South Africa A before making comeback in the national side.
In Pant’s absence, Dhruv Jurel donned keeping gloves in the home series against West Indies last month while N Jagadeesan was part of the side as a backup wicketkeeper.
The South Africa series will also see the return of Akash Deep, who was also dealing with an injury post the England tour. Akash replaces Prasidh Krishna in the Test squad.

The Selection Committee also picked India A’s squad for the three-match one-day series against South Africa A. The games will be held in Rajkot on November 13, 16 and 19.
Tilak Varma will captain in the India A side, also featuring Ruturaj Gaikwad, Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, Ishan Kishan among others.
