New Zealand won the second ODI by 7 wickets to level the series 1-1.
Virat Kohli was hugged by a fan who had invaded the field by breaching the security during the second ODI between India and New Zealand that was played at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot on January 14, 2026.
New Zealand prevailed over India by 7 wickets in the match and leveled the three-match ODI series 1-1. India had won the first ODI that was played in Baroda.
In Rajkot, India posted 284/7 in 50 overs after being asked to bat first by Kiwi captain Michael Bracewell. Shubman Gill made 56, while Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli made 24 and 23, respectively. But it was KL Rahul’s 112* in 92 balls with 11 fours and one six that took India to a formidable score.
India did well to remove New Zealand openers Devon Conway (16) and Henry Nicholls (10) cheaply. But then Will Young (87) added 162 runs for the third wicket with Daryl Mitchell to put the BlackCaps on course for the win.
Mitchell made 131* in 117 balls with 11 fours and two sixes as New Zealand made 286/3 in 47.3 overs and won the second ODI by 7 wickets.
One of the highlights of the game was when a fan breached security in the stadium and ran onto the field towards Virat Kohli. He requested Kohli for a hug, who obliged for a sec, before security took him away.
