New Zealand won their first-ever Test series in India, leads three-Test series 2-0.
New Zealand created history as they became the first team to win a Test series in India after winning the second Test in Pune by 113 runs on day three. With this win, New Zealand took a 2-0 lead in the three-Test series on October 26, 2024.
New Zealand resumed from 198/5 on day three and went from strength to strength. Tom Blundell (41) and Glenn Phillips (48*) powered the Kiwis to second innings total of 255 runs. This meant that India needed to chase down 359 runs to win the Test and level the series.
Captain Rohit Sharma was dismissed for 8 runs, but Yashasvi Jaiswal took the attack to the New Zealand bowlers, scoring 77 in 65 balls. However, Mitchell Santner weaved his magic in the second innings as well.
Apart from Jaiswal, Santner dismissed Virat Kohli (17), Shubman Gill (23), Sarfaraz Khan (9), and R Ashwin (18) to finish with second innings figure of 6/104 and 13 wickets in the match.
Ravindra Jadeja top-scored for India with 42 but the hosts were bundled out for 245 runs and won the Test by 113 runs. With this win, New Zealand led the series 2-0, their historic maiden Test series win in India.
This loss also meant that India has now lost their first Test series at home since 2012. India’s streak of 16 consecutive Test series wins also came to an end with this loss.
The third and final Test will be played in Mumbai from November 1st onwards.
