India’s star batter Virat Kohli failed to make a mark on his return to No. 4 spot as he was dismissed for a single-digit score on Day 2 of the second Test match against New Zealand in Pune.

In the absence of injured Shubman Gill, Kohli had batted at the No. 3 position in the series opener at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

While the right-hander recorded scores of 0 and 70 across the two innings in Bengaluru, he returned with just 1 in the first innings of Pune Test.

New Zealand’s left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner got the better of Kohli with a straight one. Facing his ninth delivery, the veteran campaigner went for an unlike hack across the line as the low full toss delivery sneaked under his bat to hit the stumps.

Virat Kohli’s dismissal saw the Indian innings getting reduced to 56/3 after 23.4 overs. Subsequently, the hosts went on to lose the wickets of Yashasvi Jaiswal (30) and Rishabh Pant (18) to find themselves reeling at 83/5.

On Day 1, India rode on Washington Sundar’s seven-wicket haul (7-59) to bundle out New Zealand for a modest total of 259. R Ashwin picked up the remaining three Kiwi wickets in the first innings.
