The fifth and final T20I between India and England was played in Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on February 2, 2025. India came into this series with a lead of 3-1 and the series in their pocket.

England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and chose to bowl first. Mark Wood came in for Saqib Mahmood. India also made one change with Arshdeep Singh making way for Mohammad Shami.

Sanju Samson showed a good start with 2 sixes and 1 four in the first over but was soon out on a short delivery by Mark Wood for 16 runs. However, the whole Indian innings belonged to Abhishek Sharma.

He smoked sixes at will and brought up his 50 in just 17 balls with 5 sixes and 3 fours. Tilak Varma gave him good support with 24 runs in 15 balls. Shivam Dube was the second-highest scorer with 30 runs in 13 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes to his name.

But Abhishek Sharma hammered 135 in 54 balls with 7 fours and 13 sixes to his name. He broke two Indian records in T20Is. His 13 sixes were the most by an Indian in T20I, breaking Rohit Sharma’s record of 10.

Abhishek’s 135 runs are the most by an Indian in T20Is, breaking Shubman Gill’s record of 126. His 37-ball century was also the second fastest for India, behind Rohit Sharma’s 35-ball ton against Sri Lanka.

India finished with 247/9 in 20 overs. For England, Brydon Carse took three wickets, and Mark Wood took 2 scalps.

England needed a flying start to have a chance to chase 247 runs, and Phil Salt made 55 runs in 23 balls with 7 fours and 3 sixes. However, after his wicket fell, England continued to lose wickets regularly. The next best score was Jacob Bethell’s 10 runs.

For India, Mohammad Shami took 3 wickets, while Abhishek Sharma, Shivam Dube, and Varun Chakaravarthy took 2 wickets apiece. Abhishek Sharma was named the Player of the Match for his brilliant 135-run knock. Varun Chakaravarthy was given the Player of the Series for his 14 wickets in the series, including a fifer.

India’s series win by 4-1 continues their golden run in the format under Suryakumar Yadav. The cricket fraternity was all elated at the Indian team’s domination in the series win.
