Indian team suffered a major injury scare ahead of the second T20I of the five-match series against England. On the eve of the second match, to be played in Chennai, opener Abhishek Sharma twisted his ankle and might not play in the crucial match.

Abhishek Sharma opened the innings for India in the first T20I and made the chase of 132 runs, a walk in the park as he demolished the England pace attack. He slammed 79 runs in 34 balls with 8 sixes and 5 fours, as India won the match by 7 wickets.

As per an Indian Express report, Abhishek Sharma twisted his ankle during routine warm-up drills. Abhishek was seen in great discomfort and was treated by the physiotherapist. The left-hander did walk after receiving treatment for his ankle and even made his way to the nets at MAC B Stadium, but he did not bat.

The left-hander was observed hobbling at the nets, casting doubt on his participation in the match on Saturday evening.

If Abhishek is ruled out of the game, it will be intriguing to see who will accompany Sanju Samson at the top, as they do not have a third opener in their team. In such a situation, either Tilak Varma or Dhruv Jurel might take the position of the Punjab opener.

Shami, who warmed the bench in Kolkata, bowled steadily in the nets. Initially, he bowled with a reduced run-up and a knee brace as bowling coach Morne Morkel kept constant watch. After a 15-20-minute session, he took a break before returning later to bowl at full pace.

As per the report, Mohammad Shami is completely match-fit and didn’t play in the Kolkata T20I, because of India’s combination preference.
