Former England captain Michael Vaughan was incensed over batter Joe Root’s dismissal on day 3 of the ongoing fourth Test between England and India on February 25, 2024.

India’s innings folded for 307 runs with Dhruv Jurel top-scoring with 90 runs while Shoaib Bashir took 5/119. England’s second innings didn’t start well with R Ashwin taking three quick wickets but Zak Crawley scored a well made 60 runs.

Much was expected from the first innings centurion Joe Root, but he was dismissed by R Ashwin. In the 17th over of the England second innings, Ashwin's delivery crashed into Root's pads and although the umpire was not convinced, skipper Rohit Sharma went for a review.

The replay showed that the ball pitched on the leg-stump line and was going to hit the stumps. This meant that Joe Root was given out and he walked back to the hut for 11 runs.

The dismissal wasn’t convincing enough for Michael Vaughan, who in a now-deleted post on X, expressed his disappointment.

He posted: "That looked a shocker for the technology .. more than half the ball was outside leg stump yet it came up Red !!!!!! Hawkeye is having a average series .. And it's done for England's best player Root.”

Vaughan later deleted his post and wrote on X - "Interested to know why we haven't seen many replays of the Root dismissal … Surely it's the main moment of the innings so far so we should be seeing it a lot more … Asking for a friend …".

He also posted a screenshot of ball tracking on Root’s dismissal and stated: “You can all make your own minds up.”
