Young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal's meteoric rise in Test cricket has left former cricketers and fans in awe at his talent and natural flair. His seamless transition into Test cricket and his graceful performances with the bat have earned him applause.

Among the growing admirers of Jaiswal's is former Indian opener Virender Sehwag, who himself was known for his aggressive batting style. Sehwag was also highly impressed by the young opener's remarkable achievements and performances for Team India in Test cricket.

But Sehwag feels it is too early to compare Jaiswal with iconic figures of the game, as comparisons to cricketing legends such as Sir Don Bradman and Sachin Tendulkar have surfaced amidst the young batter’s stellar performances in the ongoing five-match Test series against England.

Virender Sehwag told PTI Bhasha: “He is a very good batsman but I think comparisons are too early.”

On being asked to share his views on the franchise versus country debate, Sehwag said: “I firmly believe that representing a country should always take precedence over participating in any league. It is essential for players to prioritize national duty above club commitments.”

He further explained, “A prime example of this dedication was evident in the ILT20, where several West Indies players chose to leave the league temporarily to represent their nation in international fixtures in Australia.”

Sehwag signed off by saying, “While I understand the allure of international leagues for domestic players, I believe their primary focus should remain on excelling in domestic competitions with the ultimate goal of representing India internationally.”

Notably, Sehwag is presently in Dubai as he is working as commentator in the ongoing ILT20.
