Aakash Chopra feels another poor outing could increase Gill and Iyer's difficulties in Tests.
Former Indian cricketer-turned-commentator, Aakash Chopra, has raised concerns about the recent performances of Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer in Test cricket.
With both players failing to deliver with the bat in the ongoing second Test against England in Visakhapatnam, Chopra highlighted the urgency for the duo to make an instant impact with the bat.
The cricket expert further stressed that the second innings of the Visakhapatnam Test will be very crucial for both Gill and Iyer, as another poor outing could increase their difficulties.
Notably, Gill was dismissed by James Anderson for 34, while Iyer lost his wicket to Tom Hartley at 27 during Team India’s first innings in the ongoing second Test against England in Visakhapatnam.
Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel: “Time is running out very fast for Gill and Iyer. They have one more knock, and I really hope that they score runs because if their next knocks do not go well, the problems will become grave for both of them.”
Analysing Gill's performance, Chopra noted: “Shubman Gill got a start. He played slightly aggressively at the start for sure, but after that, he got three edges in James Anderson's two overs. The third edge carried to the keeper as well, and he got out. He wasted a good start. 34 runs are not going to be enough.”
He signed off by saying on Iyer, “Shreyas Iyer also gave a disappointing performance. The way he was moving around was not giving much confidence. You generally do not move around like that against a fast bowler in Test cricket.”
