Pope's 196 helped England put on 420 in 2nd innings and set India a target of 231 runs.
England had made 246 runs in its first innings and India replied with 436 runs. Despite a 90-run deficit, England's batters applied themselves well in the second innings and Ollie Pope took the responsibility of shouldering the batting.
Though wickets fell around him he found partners in Ben Foakes (34), Tom Hartley (34), and Rehan Ahmed (28).
He made important partnerships with all of them as England ended with 420 runs in their second innings. Pope looked good for a well-deserved double century but Jasprit Bumrah clean bowled him as he went for the glory shot for the milestone.
His efforts gave India a target of 231 runs to chase down and gave England hope of winning the match.
Pope’s knock was a brilliant one and was universally acclaimed on social media by the members of cricket fraternity.
