Owais Shah also lauded KL Rahul for his brilliant show in Hyderabad.
KL Rahul impressed one and all with his impressive performance in the opening Test of the ongoing five-match Test series against England at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
Rahul showcased his skill with his stunning knock of 86 runs off 123 balls during Team India’s 436 total in the first innings against England in the Hyderabad Test. His innings displayed a mix of patience and precision, featuring 8 fours and 2 sixes during his time at the crease.
After his brilliant show with the bat in the first innings, former Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan praised Rahul's performance and its impact on the ongoing first Test against England, as he described the current version of the batter as an updated version of him.
Zaheer Khan said on JioCinema and Sports18: “If we look at Rahul’s career, he has had a lot of injury concerns. There have been times when he has been injured while hitting peak form and he hasn’t been able to capitalise on this form, something you require in international cricket.”
He further noted, “But looking at the recent past, with the successful World Cup campaign and the South Africa series, we can say this is a 2.0 version of Rahul.”
Meanwhile, former England cricketer Owais Shah mentioned that Rahul did not play any horizontal bat shots but rather played with a straight bat during his impressive knock in Hyderabad.
Shah said, “If we look at his batting, he attempted the sweep shot only four times, whereas most of the English batsmen played the sweep. He played with a straight bat and got his boundaries and singles with straight-bat shots.”
He signed off by saying, “Many say we should not play KL Rahul, but I would say he is a wonderful batsman and should play regularly.”
