Bairstow scored 37 runs and added 61 wicket Joe Root for the 4th wicket.
Openers Zak Crawley (20) and Ben Duckett (35) added 55 runs for the first wicket. Rohit Sharma saw the pitch might aid spin and immediately brought in his ace spinners. Ashwin got into the action soon, removing both the openers, while Jadeja got rid of Ollie Pope.
Jonny Bairstow came out to bat at No.5 and stitched a rebuilding partnership with Joe Root. They added 61 for the fourth wicket, before Bairstow was dismissed by a brilliant spin delivery by Akshar Patel for 37 runs.
Bowling from round the wicket, Akshar landed the ball on middle stump at a good length. Bairstow came forward to defend but was comprehensively beaten as the ball turned sharply past his outside edge to beat his bat and crash into the top of the off stump.
Bairstow couldn’t believe that he was out bowled and kept looking back while walking towards the pavilion.
