India's fast-bowler, Mohammad Shami, said that he is giving his best shot to make himself available for selection in the upcoming five-match Test series against England, set to begin on January 25.

Shami is currently nursing an ankle injury that has kept him out of action since the 2023 ODI World Cup, where he was the tournament's highest wicket-taker with 24 wickets. As he works on his recovery from the injury, the senior pacer is determined to be part of the Test series against England.

Recently, Shami was honored with the prestigious Arjuna Award, and the bowler considers it the most significant achievement of his life. He further expressed gratitude to his family for supporting him throughout his cricketing journey.

Mohammad Shami was quoted as saying by India Today: “It's biggest achievement of my life I can't express my feelings. I love my sport and I always try to do my best whatever I am doing. The kind of support my family gave to me to pursue my dream is just amazing. I don't have words to explain how I started my journey from Amroha to Indian cricket. Passion is always there and I always try to play as much as I can and do well for the country.”

Speaking about his availability for the upcoming Test series against England, Shami said: “I am trying my best to be available for the selection for England. The series test match is longer format so you don't want to be in doubt.”

On being asked about his plans for the T20 World Cup 2024, the Indian pacer said: “Whenever it comes to T20s, many times I don't understand whether I am in scene or not.”

Shami concluded, “But what I feel is that you have IPL before the T20 World Cup and that is the best opportunity to bring in momentum, and if management asks me to play, I’ll be available.”
