Gaikwad has checked into NCA after feeling pain in his wrist.
The three-match T20I series between India and New Zealand is slated to get underway in Ranchi on Friday (January 26).
According to the report, Gaikwad has checked into National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for a prognosis of his injury and subsequent rehabilitation.
The right-hander recently featured in Maharashtra’s Ranji Trophy game against Hyderabad and registered scores of 8 and 0. It was after this match Gaikwad informed BCCI’s medical team that he was feeling pain in his wrist while batting.
This is the second time Ruturaj Gaikwad has faced trouble with his wrist. Last year, he missed a T20I against Sri Lanka due to similar injury.
As per the report, Gaikwad missing assignments with frequent injuries and illness have made the national team’s decision-makers furious.
However, the Indian team management is unlikely to seek his replacement for this series, which increases the probability of Prithvi Shaw’s return to the side.
