Sunil Gavaskar impressed with Shubman Gill's smooth batting in the ODI cricket.
Young Indian opener Shubman Gill has been on fire with the bat in ODI cricket for the past 6 months and he made everyone his fan with his fluent batting in the format.
Gill is currently playing in the ongoing three-match ODI series against New Zealand, and he already smashed a double ton and 40* which came after a hundred in the recent ODI series against Sri Lanka.
Well, the right-hander has now got a nickname from the legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar, who has now become the latest fan of the young opener given his present form with the bat in ODI cricket.
After India vs New Zealand's second ODI in Raipur on January 21, Gavaskar called the 23-year-old "Smoothman Gill" as he was talking about how he was batting smoothly at the top of the order.
Later, Gill’s reaction to the former Indian captain’s nickname went viral, as the young opener was slightly embarrassed to hear such things from the legendary cricketer.
Gavaskar told Shubman Gill on Star Sports during the post-match interview: “I have given you a new nickname, Smoothman Gill. I hope you don't mind.” To which, Gill replied with a smile: “I don't mind at all, sir.”
Notably, Gavaskar used the same nickname a couple of times on-air during India's innings in the second ODI, which the hosts won by 8 wickets on Saturday.
