IND v ENG 2021: Virat Kohli overtakes Graeme Smith in the elite list of captains en route his 66 in 2nd ODI

Kohli played a brilliant knock of 66 in the second ODI against England.

Virat Kohli added another feather to his cap as he smashed another half-century in the second ODI against England at Pune on Friday (March 26).

While the Indian captain scored 56 in the ODI series opener and became the fastest to score 10000 runs across formats on home soil, he played a brilliant knock of 66 in the second game.

It was his 62nd ODI half-century and with this innings, he also surpassed former South Africa skipper Graeme Smith to attain the 5th position in the list of captains with most runs in the 50-over format.

Smith has 5,416 runs to his name as an ODI captain and Kohli overtook him in the 24th over of India’s innings.

Australia skipper Ricky Ponting heads the list with 8497 runs from 234 games as ODI captain. MS Dhoni is second in the chart with 6641 runs from 200 ODIs as captain followed by Stephen Fleming (6295) and Arjuna Ranatunga (5608).

Coming to the match, England won the toss and opted to bowl first in the second ODI. The home team lost their openers early before Kohli stitched a 121-run partnership with KL Rahul.

The Indian skipper was eventually dismissed by Adil Rashid in the 32nd over for the score of 66 off 79 balls. His knock was laced with 3 fours and 1 six.
