Indian cricketer and former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Dinesh Karthik heaped praise for Indian bowler Prasidh Krishna and said that he was always confident about his KKR teammate representing his country.

Prasidh Krishna was one of the architect behind Team India’s victory over England in the first ODI at Pune. The lanky pacer returned with the figures of 4/54, the best bowling figures by an Indian bowler on his debut.

Krishna’s ODI debut was a roller coaster ride. He didn’t start well and conceded 37 runs in his first three overs as England openers Jonny Bairstow (94) and Jason Roy (46) took him to the cleaners.

However, in his second spell, Krishna bounced back hard and broke the 135 runs opening partnership between English openers by removing Jason Roy.

The Karnataka pacer later removed Ben Stokes, Sam Billings and Tom Curran to help his team beat the visitors by 66 runs in the first ODI of the three-match series.

IND v ENG 2021: "I want to be called a hit the deck bowler," says Prasidh Krishna

Three years before his ODI debut Prasidh Krishna was signed by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2018 as a replacement to the injured Kamlesh Nagarkoti. He impressed everyone with his performances in IPL and domestic circuit and was rewarded with his maiden ODI-call up for Team India.

In a video posted by KKR on their Twitter handle Indian wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik who captained Prasidh Krishna said he had no doubts even in 2018 that it was a matter of time before the latter breaks into the Indian side.

"Prasidh, I'm one of the happiest for you for what has happened today. When we picked you in 2018, I had no doubt that the way you bowled, it was a matter of time before you represent the country.

"The time has come. Go, shine boy. I'm sure you will do a fabulous job. Good luck with everything and I'm sure your international career will be really good," Dinesh Karthik said.

Last year Indian skipper Virat Kohli described Krishna as a surprise package for the T20I World Cup 2021. Apart from Karthik and Virat Kohli, Australian bowling legend Glenn McGrath, who had worked with the Karnataka quick in the MRF foundation, was also impressed by the lanky Indian pacer.
