Prasidh Krishna made a dream India debut for India by delivering a record performance with the ball in the first ODI of the three-match series against England on Tuesday (March 23) in Pune.

On Tuesday at the Maharashtra Cricket Stadium, Pune, the Karnataka pacer got a nervy start as the England openers Jason Roy (46) and Jonny Bairstow (94) went on a rampage and took him to the cleaners early on, as he conceded 37 runs in his first three overs in the first ODI.

However, Krishna showed his ability to withstand cricket at the highest level in his superb second spell, as the pacer returned with the record-breaking figures of 4/54 in 8.1 overs to help Team India beat England by 66 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the ongoing three-match ODI series on Tuesday in Pune.

The 25-year-old broke Noel David's 24-year-old record for best figures by an Indian seamer on debut having had taken 3 for 21 on his ODI debut against the West Indies back in 1997.

After his record debut against England, Krishna said he would like to be known as a “hit-the-deck” bowler who can break partnerships whenever the team needed.

Krishna said after the match: “It didn't start off well, and they came hard at us because we bowled poorly, but we had belief. We picked wickets in a cluster and that helped us a lot. I understood after my third over, I can't bowl full, and then I hit good length areas, and let the ball do the rest.”

The pacer, who plays for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), has credited the IPL for having the experience of facing world-class batters that helped him against England on Tuesday.

Prasidh also revealed that he is trying to get the length more consistently and hopes to become the partnership breaker for a long time after a memorable debut in the first ODI in Pune.

Referring to his ability to extract extra bounce from the track, the bowler said: “IPL has helped me, but it's important in a 10-over format it's more important to come back. I'd like to be known as a hit-the-deck bowler, and I'm trying to get the length more consistently.”

He signed off by saying, “I'm going to go back to the drawing board and improve upon it. I hope I can be the partnership breaker for long because the team needed it at the time, so I was happy to do it.”
