Asked to bat first, the visitors posted 164/6 in 20 overs. Opener Jason Roy was the top-scorer with 35-ball 46 while Jonny Bairstow (20), Eoin Morgan (28) and Ben Stokes (24) played handy cameos.
Washington Sundar and Shardul Thakur were the stand-out bowlers for India, claiming 2 wickets by conceding 29 runs each in their respective four overs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1-28) was also economical with the ball and took the prized scalp of Jos Buttler for nought.
Chasing the target, India lost KL Rahul for a duck but the duo of Virat Kohli and Ishan Kishan added 94 runs for the second wicket to put the hosts in a commanding position.
In his debut match, Ishan smashed 56 off 32 balls (5 fours and 4 sixes) before Adil Rashid trapped him LBW. Nonetheless, Kohli held the one end firmly and shared a 36-run stand with Rishabh Pant (26 off 13 balls). In the process, the Indian captain also notched up his 26th fifty in T20Is.
After Pant’s dismissal, Shreyas Iyer (8*) arrived in the middle to partner Kohli (73* off 49 balls) and the duo took the home over the line with 7 wickets and 13 balls to spare.
Cricket experts lauded Team India for their clinical performance in the second T20I.
