Varun Chakravarthy failed to clear the YoYo test twice.
Indian skipper Virat Kohli, while reacting to Varun Chakravarthy’s missed chances in the Indian team as the latter failed to clear the fitness test, said that individuals need to understand the systems has been created for the betterment of the Indian cricket team.
The Yo-Yo test has become a major part of Indian cricket since mid-2017, following the conclusion of the ICC Champions Trophy.
Many star players such as Ambati Rayudu, Mohammad Shami, Sanju Samson, etc. have failed to clear the test at one time. However mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy is the latest addition to the list.
Varun Chakravarthy on account of his brilliant performance in the Indian Premier League 2020 (IPL) was picked in the Indian T20 squad for the tour of Australia but later was ruled out of the series due to a shoulder injury.
However, after recovering from the injury, Varun Chakravarthy was included in the Indian T20 squad for the five-match series against England starting on March 12.
Before joining the squad Chakravarthy failed to clear the fitness test at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) repeatedly, which further ruled him out of the T20I series.
While addressing the press conference ahead of the first T20I against England, Indian skipper Virat Kohli while reacting to Varun Chakravarthy’s missed chances said that Team India expects players to follow the set standards to compete at the highest level.
"Look individuals need to understand the systems that have been created for the Indian cricket team. We should operate at the very high levels of fitness and skills and that's why this (India team) is top of the ladder when playing cricket, in our country." Virat Kohli said during the virtual press conference.
Virat Kohli further said that they expect players to be abiding by what is required to be a part of Team India.
"We would expect players to abide by what's required to be a part of Team India. There shouldn't be space for any compromise, in that regard," he said.
Chakravarty’s replacement is yet to be named. However, young Mumbai Indians leg-spinner Rahul Chahar, who is in the bio-bubble since the start of the Test series, is likely to be added to the squad.
