Earlier, Chakravarthy couldn't go to Australia tour because of shoulder injury.
Mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy may have to sit out of the T20I series against England. According to Cricbuzz, he has not done well in the mandatory fitness test.
Team India has set a new benchmark to pass the test. A player needs to complete a 2-kilometer run in 8.5 minutes or scoring 17.1 in the Yo-Yo test.
The 29-year-old had already missed out on the Australia tour, which was his maiden India call, because of injury. Chakravarthy's performance in IPL 2020 for Kolkata Knight Riders had brought him in the spotlight.
Speaking to Cricbuzz, the spinner said he is waiting for official confirmation on the fitness test result. "I have not been informed of anything as yet," he said.
Chakravarthy had to spend three months in National Cricket Academy (NCA). He gave a special mention to the NCA head Rahul Dravid on social media while nursing a shoulder injury.
The report says the spinner's rehab program went well. He improved in his strength and conditioning but his running was a problem.
Chakravarthy is currently training with the Kolkata Knight Riders team in Mumbai. He wasn't considered for the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy by his state selectors.
Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) secretary S Ramasamy had said the spinner was never in contention for the One-Day side and they see him as a T20 specialist. Although the 29-year-old was ignored for the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 trophy too.
