Yuvraj said that had Kumble and Harbhajan bowled on such pitches, they would have picked many more wickets.
Instead, England started well batting first after winning the toss. However Indian spinners Akshar Patel and R Ashwin came to India’s help on a turning wicket. England managed just 112 runs with Akshar taking 6/38 and Ashwin taking four wickets.
In return, India made 145 runs with Joe Root taking his maiden Test fifer. England looked happy to let India have only a 33-run lead, but Indian spinners had other ideas, with Akshar taking five more wickets and Ashwin adding three more to his kitty. England managed just 81 runs and set India 49 runs to win.
While praising India’s victory over England, Yuvraj Singh criticized the pitch in veiled words, using names of Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh, saying that they would have taken 1,000 and 800 Test wickets on such a poor pitch.
“finished in 2 days Not sure if that’s good for test cricket !If @anilkumble1074 and @harbhajan_singh bowled on these kind of wickets they would be sitting on a thousand and 800 ? However congratulations to @akshar2026 what a spell! congratulations @ashwinravi99 @ImIshant,” the former India all-rounder tweeted.
However, as soon as Yuvraj, winner of the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 World Cup, tweeted his thoughts, cricket fans swarmed his account and slammed him for belittling India’s victory despite testing conditions and for using names of Indian bowling legends for doing so.
