Ravi Shastri met the double centurion Joe Root before the third day's play in the first Test.
England skipper Joe Root celebrated his 5th Test double century when he began the Test series in India with a bang. Indian head coach Ravi Shastri went down to Root ahead of the third day's play and congratulated him on the field.
Root scored 218 off 377 deliveries in the first Test at Chennai and helped England post a huge first-innings total of 578 batting 40 mins into Day 3. After scoring 228 and 186 against Sri Lanka last month, England no. 4 has now scored centuries in three consecutive Tests.
He has thus equaled the great Sir Don Bradman's record of scoring hundreds in three back-to-back Test matches as captain.
The 30-year-old's achievement attracted a lot of praise not only from the England fans but also from the opposition. While Indian skipper Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara were seen praising Root right after his innings came to an end, Indian head coach Ravi Shastri went down to congratulate him on Day 3.
The official Twitter handle of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) posted a video of the event with the caption, "#TeamIndia Head Coach @RaviShastriOfc congratulates @root66 on his double ton before start of play on Day 3. @Paytm #INDvENG"
