IND v ENG 2021: Google's CEO Sundar Pichai welcomes England team to his hometown Chennai

India and England to play the first two Tests of 4-match series in Chennai from Feb 5 onwards.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai on Wednesday took to his Twitter handle and greeted England cricket Team with the warmest welcome on their arrival in Chennai. 

England cricket team is scheduled to play 4 Tests, 3 ODIs, and 5 T20Is matches against India.

However, England cricket Board on Friday (22nd January) announced a 16-member squad for the first two tests, the first of which will be played on 5th February at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. 

The squad sees the likes of Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer, and Rory Burns returning to the squad after missing the recently concluded Sri Lanka series.

Joe Root and England team flew in from Sri Lanka and headed to the hotel where they joined Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer, and Rory Burns, who arrived in India on Sunday, for a mandatory 6-day quarantine.

Members of the Indian Team including star batsman Rohit Sharma and Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane arrived on Tuesday night. While Cheteshwar Pujara, Jasprit Bumrah, and Rishabh Pant reached on Wednesday morning.

Team coach Ravi Shastri flew in from Mumbai as did several other players from destinations across the country. Skipper Virat Kohli is scheduled to arrive later on Wednesday.

The players of the two teams will be staying at Hotel Leela Palace in a bio-bubble as part of quarantine protocols and will undergo testing for COVID-19.

Addressing the England cricket team’s arrival in Chennai Google CEO Sundar Pichai, who was born in Chennai, took to his Twitter handle and said, "Welcome to my hometown, wish I was there. Should be a great series," Tweeted Sundar Pichai.
