India and Australia met in the first ODI of the three-match series which is being played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on March 17, 2023. India’s regular captain Rohit Sharma is not playing in this match due to personal commitments.

In his stead, Hardik Pandya is leading the team and won the toss as well, choosing to field first on a perfect batting track in Mumbai. For Australia, Steve Smith revealed that David Warner is still not fit and hence not included in the XI. Also keeper Alex Carey flew back home after falling sick.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj gave India an early breakthrough by rattling Travis Head’s stumps. After that Steve Smith and Mitchell Marsh added 72 runs for the second wicket with Marsh scoring at over 100 strike rate.

Smith was focused on consolidating and was looking dangerous as he had set himself up for a big one. However, in the 13th over, Hardik Pandya made Smith make an error, which ended in him getting the Australian captain’s wicket.

Pandya bowled a short delivery outside off-stump which moved further away and Steve Smith chased the delivery seeing an opportunity to score. However, he only managed to edge the ball while trying to cut it and keeper KL Rahul took a brilliant catch diving to his right with both hands.
