India opener Shubman Gill got a life despite Australia spinner Nathan Lyon and stand-in captain Steve Smith opting for DRS, as luck favored the batter leaving the opposition infuriated in the end on day two of the ongoing fourth Test between the two sides in Ahmedabad.

The incident took place in the 18th over of the Indian innings after openers Gill and Rohit Sharma had gotten the second day off to a blazing start. Lyon pitched the ball a bit upfront to Gill on the 4th delivery of the over.

Gill stepped forward and tried to block the ball, but the ball thudded into the pads. Lyon appealed for the LBW and after the on-field umpire gave it not out, skipper Steve Smith opted for DRS. The impact was pad first, but since it was outside off-stump, Gill was safe.

However, despite the impact being 'three metres' off target, the TV umpire opted for the ball tracker, which showed that it would have gone on to hit the leg stump. Umpire Richard Kettleborough was asked to stand with his decision and signaled not out.

This left Lyon and Smith infuriated and the bowler discussed the decision with the umpire, who was seen giving an explanation. The camera then panned towards Steve Smith, who could be heard screaming 'WHAT?' on the stump mic.

He also approached the umpires and was left with his hands on his hips and a surprised look on his face.
