Shami now has 25 sixes in Tests, one more than Kohli's tally of 24 maximums.
But then Akshar Patel got help from Mohammad Shami, who slammed 37 runs with 2 fours and 3 sixes in his knock and added 52 runs together. Shami hit Australia bowling hero Todd Murphy for three sixes, despite the bowler returning figures of 7/124 on his Test debut.
Shami had walked it with India leading well over the 350-run mark and had all the freedom and swung his bat at every opportunity. He did the same when he hit Murphy for one six in the 125th over and then two consecutive ones in the 131st over.
He hit the fuller one outside off wide over long-off and then cleared his front leg to take on the flighted delivery and dispatch it over mid-wicket.

With this massive hit, Shami went past Virat Kohli in the tally of sixes in Tests. Shami now has 25 sixes to his name, and he is ahead of the likes of Kohli (24), Yuvraj Singh (21), and KL Rahul (17).
India’s innings folded for 400 runs, taking a lead of 223 runs with Akshar Patel being the last man dismissed for his career-best 84.
