India held the upper hand after day one of the first Test against Australia at Nagpur of the Broder-Gavaskar Trophy 2023, which began in Nagpur on February 9.

Australia could only manage 177 runs after captain Pat Cummins won the toss and chose to bat first. Marnus Labuschagne (49), Steve Smith (37), Alex Carey (36), and Peter Handscomb (31) were the main scorers for Kangaroos.

In reply, Rohit Sharma (56*) and KL Rahul (20) helped India to 77/1 at the end of day one giving India a huge advantage.

As for the Indian bowlers, Ravindra Jadeja was the star with figures of 5/47, while R Ashwin took three wickets. This was Jadeja’s comeback to international cricket after injuring his knee during the Asia Cup 2022 and then undergoing surgery to repair the damage.

Meanwhile, in what can be a controversial instance, a viral video of Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj showed something unintentional done by the all-rounder, reacting to which former Australia captain Tim Paine and former England captain Michael Vaughn questioned his intent.

With Alex Carey and Peter Handscomb at the crease and the Aussies at 120-5, Jadeja came in for his 16th over already sitting with figures of 3-30.

However, the broadcasters captured Siraj approaching Jadeja with something on the back of his hand with his right-hand finger and then was seen rubbing it on his hands and on the first finger of his bowling hand as well.

When footage of the moment was shared with Paine on Twitter, he replied: “Interesting.”

Meanwhile, Fox Sports also shared the footage and posted it on social media, but called it a 'questionable moment'.

They captioned their post: "A debate has erupted after vision of a questionable moment was spotted during the first innings of the first Test between Australia and India. #INDvAUS"

Quoting their tweet, Michael Vaughn said: “What is it he is putting on his spinning finger? Never ever seen this

Jadeja finished with his 11th five-wicket haul in Tests helping India get ahead in the contest.
