Rahul has been named the vice-captain of Indian team for Australian Tests.
Rahul had missed the white-ball series against New Zealand for his nuptials with Athiya on January 23, and last played a Test against Bangladesh in which he captained the side to a 2-0 white-wash.
With just nine days to go for the first Test in Nagpur, the vice-captain for the series Rahul was seen batting in the nets at a cricket club in Mumbai's Bandra. He is expected to open the innings alongside captain Rohit Sharma.
If Shreyas Iyer fails to recover from his back injury, Shubman Gill might get a chance to play in the middle order for India.
With returns of 22, 23, 10, and 2, Rahul may not be in the greatest form in the longest format of the game, but being the vice-captain he is likely to start in the line-up and will hope to make it count.

India's series against Australia will be their final assignment in the ongoing 2021-23 cycle of the World Test Championship (WTC). While Australia is almost in the final which will be played at the Oval in England, India has a good chance to qualify for WTC 2023 finals if they beat Australia in the upcoming home series by a 3-1 margin.
