Navdeep Saini is all set to make his Test debut as the seamer has been named as a replacement for Mohammed Shami for the one-off Test against Afghanistan to be played at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru from Thursday (14 June).

The 25-year-old, who made his First-class debut in 2016, was the leading wicket-taker for Delhi in 2017–18 Ranji Trophy with 34 scalps in eight matches and with this brilliant display, Saini made it to the India ‘A’ side but didn’t get too many matches to prove his potential.

Furthermore, the pacer also got picked up by Delhi Daredevils for the 2017 Indian Premier League (IPL) season and the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for the 2018 season but didn’t get enough exposure with both franchisees to came into the limelight.

However, this India call-up might change Navdeep’s fortune at the game of cricket and able to shine at the international arena with the Indian team.

Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer RP Singh was delighted to see Saini got India call-up for the historic one-off Test against Afghanistan at home. Former pacer also expressed his hopes that Saini will meet the expectations of the national selectors against Afghanistan.

On 11 June, RP Singh went on social media to express his delight over Navdeep’s India selection. He tweeted, “Good to see Delhi pacer Navdeep Saini make it to the Indian squad for the One-off test against Afghanistan. Hope he extracts a great deal from his first call-up to the Indian team.”
