Cricket Australia (CA) on Wednesday (July 13) confirmed that South Africa have cancelled their men's ODI series that was part of the upcoming Australia tour.

The three-match ODI series was slated to be held in Hobart, Sydney and Perth on January 12, 14 and 17 next year. However, it has now been scrapped as South Africa's request for new dates to avoid a clash with their domestic T20 league could not be accommodated.

"It is disappointing that Cricket South Africa will be unable to contest the ODI series in January," said Cricket Australia chief executive Nick Hockley.

The series was part of the ICC ODI Super League which determines direct qualification for the 2023 World Cup.

Since there was no window available to reschedule the series before the qualification cut-off in May 2023, South Africa have agreed to forfeit all 30 Super League points to Australia, pending ICC approval.

Notably, the three-Test series between South Africa and Australia will go ahead as planned Down Under in December and January.

For the upcoming season, CA changed the venue of three other Australian games in order to provide an even spread of matches for home supporters.

A men's T20I match against West Indies on October 7 has been shifted from the Gold Coast to Brisbane, while a T20I against England on October 7 has been moved from Brisbane to Perth.

A women's T20I against Pakistan on January 26 will now be played at Hobart instead of Canberra.
