Reacting to the disappointing postponement of South Africa-England ODI series, renowned commentator, Harsha Bhogle, said it's a "grim" reminder of how serious the threat of COVID-19 pandemic is.

Bhogle added it's also an example of how crucial the bio-security bubbles and their strict adherence is for the sustenance of on-field play in these difficult times.

"The cancellation of the SA-Eng ODI series is a grim and serious reminder of the times we live in and of the need to have very strictly enforced bubbles if we want to play cricket," Bhogle tweeted. "And indeed, of the need to have extraordinary discipline if you are within the bubble."

In a joint statement on Monday (December 7), CSA and ECB confirmed the indefinite postponement of the series part of the ICC Super League after scares borne out of potential Coronavirus positive cases in England camp following a controversial breach of health protocols at the two teams' shared hotel.

The two boards felt the need to ensure that the physical and mental well-being of the players isn't compromised in these circumstances. They did, however, informed there will be discussions held on whether to reschedule the three fixtures next year.

In case the series is entirely cancelled, both England and South Africa will share equal points for the 13-team league counting towards qualification for the 2023 World Cup in India.

Bhogle also took this as an opportunity to laud everyone involved in the smooth conduct of the IPL 2020 in UAE, reiterating the herculean task they pulled off with distinction in safely organising such a large scale tournament within a raging pandemic.

"It also tells you of the enormity of what the #IPL pulled off in the UAE," he tweeted. "Yes, it helped that there weren't too many local Covid cases but the bubble was demanding, very strictly enforced and, as we now know, just as well."
