India lost the thrilling Lord's Test match by just 22 runs.
During the meeting, King Charles told the Indian team that he saw the highlights of the third India versus England Test at Lord's, which went down to the wire, with the hosts prevailing in the end by just 22 runs.
"It was amazing to meet King Charles III and he was very kind and generous to call us. We had some really good conversations. King Charles III told us that the way our last batsman got out in the previous test match was quite unfortunate, the ball rolling on the stumps...We told him that it was an unfortunate match for us and could have gone either ways. Hopefully, we will have better luck in both the next games," Gill said on the meeting.
Chasing 193, India were bowled out for 170, but not before putting up a valiant fight led by Ravindra Jadeja. The all-rounder was left stranded on 61*, having nearly pulled off the improbable.
With the last recognised batter in KL Rahul falling at 81/6, Jadeja stood firmly with the tail, dragging India within touching distance of victory.
Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj displayed admirable grit, but England bowlers eventually prevailed in closing out the game.
After losing the third Test, India are now 1-2 behind in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. They can’t afford to lose any more matches or the series will be gone.
The penultimate Test of the five-match series is slated to be held at Old Trafford from July 23.
