Ravindra Jadeja shepherded Bumrah and Siraj as India fell 22 runs short.
England came up victors in the recent third Test against India by 22 runs at the Lord’s despite amazing rearguard action by Indian tail-enders and Ravindra Jadeja. Set 193 runs to win by England, India resumed their innings on the overnight score of 58/4.
Indian dreams of an easy victory were dashed by Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes. With a superb delivery, Archer first removed Rishabh Pant (9) before Stokes dismissed KL Rahul LBW for 33 runs. When Archer made a superb return catch of Washington Sundar (0), he further damaged India.
The match appeared to be over when India lost Nitish Kumar Reddy soon before lunch, leaving them reeling at 112 for eight. However, Jadeja fought valiantly and remained undefeated on 61 while collaborating with Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah, the tail-enders.
Even though the second session was prolonged after the Indian bowler was removed at 147, the all-rounder and Bumrah put on a 35-run partnership as the game went into the final one. With 30 needed in the final session, Siraj's strong defense from that point gave India some chance.
Siraj played 30 balls and scored 4 runs, while Ravindra Jadeja had made 61* in 181 balls with 4 fours and 1 six. Ben Stokes brought back Shoaib Bashir to get the final wicket, and he did the job.
On the fifth ball of the 75th over, Bashir bowled a length ball and Siraj went on the back foot and defended it. However, the ball spun onto the stumps and dislodged the bail as Siraj tried to kick it. This sent England into euphoria as they won the game by 22 runs, but Siraj was heartbroken and in tears.
