Rishabh Pant made 74 runs before getting run out just before lunch on day three.
Rishabh Pant and Ben Duckett were heard on the stump mic having a funny banter on day 3 of the ongoing third Test between England and India being played at the Lord’s on July 12, 2025. England had scored 387 runs in the first innings with Joe Root making 104 and Jasprit Bumrah taking 5/74.
India started well, despite losing Yashasvi Jaiswal for 13. Karun Nair made 40, as KL Rahul dropped anchor at the other end. Shubman Gill, hero of the Edgbaston Test, fell for 16, but Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul added 141 runs for the 4th wicket.
Rishabh Pant made 74 with 8 fours and 2 sixes before being run out just before lunch on day three. KL Rahul went on to make 100 runs, his second ton at Lord’s with 13 fours.
When India's deputy captain, Rishabh Pant, is out in the middle, there is rarely a dull moment. When Pant is wandering about the field, either holding the bat or keeping gloves, the stump microphone is more important than anything else.
This time, Pant was heard on stump mic giving it back to Ben Duckett, who tried to sledge him for his slow batting. The left-hander took his time when Chris Woakes was bowling with the keeper up, attempting to stop Rishabh Pant from moving down the track after he had just charged and hit him for a boundary right down the ground.
Despite the occasional attempt at a reverse lap, Pant was mostly batting extremely calmly against Woakes. Seeing this, Duckett chose to make fun of Pant's comparatively sluggish innings in an attempt to frighten him. The vice-captain of India responded perfectly to silence him.
Here is the conversation:
Ben Duckett: "Just batting for the draw?"
Rishabh Pant: "Me?"
Ben Duckett: "Yeah"
Rishabh Pant: "Same like you"
Ben Duckett: "Same like me, bro?"
Rishabh Pant: "Same like you"
Ben Duckett: "Yeah? That's me playing on Day 1."
Rishabh Pant: “It's still nibblin.g"
Ben Duckett: “Not right n.ow”
Rishabh Pant: “It is, it. is”
